Pirates, Paris, and Perspective

Anyway you view it, the classic attraction Pirates of the Caribbean reigns supreme as the ultimate Disney Imagineering feat. Whether it's the original in Anaheim, the truncated version in Florida at Walt Disney World,  or Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure in Shanghai, the concept compels guests to set sail. Really does anyone leave disappointed. In fact, on my last ride at Disneyland, guests actually applauded and some first time guests exclaimed, "It can't be over!"

The piece of concept art seen above was first revealed by Martin Smith in one of his excellent tribute videos. It's for Disneyland Paris' version which sits elegantly in Adventureland. The attraction itself may surprise guests used to riding in California or Florida. There's a reordering of scenes, a swordfight, and an explosive ending which reveals Captain Barbosa in his scarier than normal form. Yes, Jack Sparrow has invaded Paris as well, and yet, it all fits.

Once planned for Hong Kong
but never built!

It may be just me, but the gorgeous Hong Kong Disneyland may lose a few points by missing this adventure- but what a great job I bet those Imagineers bringing pirates into those waters!
