Dancing with Olivia Newton-John

Olivia Newton-John. There's no one like her! Xanadu may have been a bomb of a movie, but the music was certainly fun. Magic was the definitive standout. I knew it was a smash the first time I heard it! Another hit was Suddenly with Cliff Richard, but my personal favorite was Dancin', a duet with the Tubes. It was a nifty blend of Rock and 40's Swing. But I always longed for a solo version that was all Olivia all the time. Thanks to a friend on the A&M Corner discussion boards, he created it on my behalf. That took some real magic- and I love it!

The Magic of the Movies

All too often, we as adults forget the simplest of pleasures and take them for granted. Like going to the movies, and the magic of film.

Recently, my son-in-law invited me to go to my three year old  grandson's first visit to the cineplex. Planes: Fire and Rescue was on tap. (And it was better than I expected, by the way. Great animated sequences.)

Getting him a kid's special treat box (popcorn, root beer, and a snack pack of gummies), we settled into the theater chairs. I wasn't sure what to expect, as my grandson is high energy.

It was amazing. As soon as the Disney castle appeared on the screen, I could see my little grandson was instantly mesmerized. He sat in basically one place the entire film. At a pivotal plot point, I heard him say to his Daddy, "Will Dusty be ok?" He was engrossed in the film. When it was over, he said innocently, "Can we go see another one?"

The final amazing aspect of the afternoon came on the way home. It was quiet, and he said, "Thank you, Daddy, for taking me to the movies today." How very sweet! And what a statement that is of the power of the movies. 

Time to Fix the Magic

Every fan of the website MiceAge knows founder Al Lutz is rightfully hard on the Walt Disney Company when it comes to the theme parks. Whether it was the deteriorating state of Disneyland in the 90's or the debacle of California Adventure in 2001, Al was among the first not to sugar coat what was going on, calling the company back to high standards in design and upkeep. The results of his hard work have contributed to raising the standard. Now, aside from the gorgeously built and maintained Tokyo Disney Resort, the Anaheim property stands tallest among the ones Stateside and in Europe.

Walt Disney World has had no such champion willing to go to bat for high quality- up until now. Fix the Magic is a new site dedicated to returning the Florida complex to a place where mediocrity no longer exists. It's a start-up for sure, but it is a beginning. Show your support. Maybe, just maybe, a few years from now this site will be part of the reason Walt Disney World returns to its former glory- and not because of very popular wizard down the highway began to outshine the one in Florida that started it all!
