Christmas Family Devotional 2025, Week Three: God’s Love Is Stronger – “From the Manger to the Cross”

Week Three of Four

God’s Love Is Stronger – “From the Manger to the Cross”

Scripture: John 3:16–17
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

The Christmas story doesn’t end with the baby in the manger. It's only the beginning of the world's greatest story! The manger points to the cross Jesus would die on to save us. That's the most important piece of the story and the one that is often forgotten.

The whole Bible points to this very big truth and then what happens when Jesus returns to judge and rule the world. The story is an adventure and a mystery at times, but most importantly, it is a love story about the One True God who loves the people He created. That's me, you, and the people on this earth.

Jesus died in place of you! Yes, that’s how much God loves you. He saw how our sin hurts the people He loves. He saw how it hurts us, too! He saw the brokenness in our world—the hate, the fear, the ways of living that bring pain to His heart. He knew He had to step in because we couldn't fix any of it. Without Him, we'd be totally lost. We'd have no hope, no purpose, no joy. And our eternal future would be pretty awful!

When we look at Jesus, we see the Father’s love in action. It’s not a distant, “maybe someday” kind of love. It’s real, personal, and strong enough to change our lives.  He is the very definition of love, and He is the Conquering King who will return to earth one day!

Discussion Questions
  • What does God’s love shown through Jesus mean to you personally?
  • If you really believed God’s love is that strong, how might it change the way you live, the way you treat others—or yourself?
  • Who in your life needs to see this kind of love through you this Christmas? How can you show it?
  • Who do you know that needs to understand this story about why God sent Jesus to the earth? Try practicing how to tell them.
Prayer

Describe back to God all His characteristics. Tell Him why you love Him. Then ask Him to give you strength to live for Him. Think about the people you know who do not know Him. Talk to God about them by name, and ask Him to show them who He is and how much He loves them.

Lost Christmas

George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, the two men that formed Wham, came up with one very catchy holiday tune: Last Christmas. The title was also used for a movie starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. But this isn't about either one.

After two on line doctor visits and one to urgent care, I'm now the confirmed recipient of the flu, pneumonia and mono. Gifts aplenty! My wife has the same two illnesses but no the mono.  This means not only have I done very little to decorate our house, I haven't been able to enjoy anything about my favorite holiday. I haven't even played my beloved Christmas Portrait album by the Carpenters. I'm just so tired. Lost Christmas indeed!

Happy 100th Birthday Dick Van Dyke! And Some Good Advice from the Man Himself

Dick Van Dyke. Icon. Legend- Disney and more. Family man. One of the nicest celebrities I'm sure anyone has ever met. What an incredible  life! Happy 100th Birthday! Mary Poppins made us love him, and life made us realize just how special he is. What's one piece of advice he'd like to share with us?

"Anyone who does try to live by the Bible sooner or later comes across a text that seems designed especially for him. For me it’s that tremendous question in Matthew 16:26: What does it profit a man if be gain the whole world but lose his own soul?"

God bless you, Dick Van Dyke!

The Beauty of Disney's Westcot at Night

The long lost Disney Imagineering project that should have been built in place of Disney California Adventure. They call it Westcot. A new version of EPCOT Center improved upon by learning from mistakes from the past. It has always seemed that the Imagineers were at their most creative point when they were forced to deal with Disneyland's space limitations. Obvious case in point: Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. Both attractions benefit from the restrictions they had to work around. Such would have been the case with Westcot. By design, the nations of World Showcase would have the be grouped into continents and the Future World pavilions reorganized into more effective layouts. This AI created image shows what could have been.

Want a deeper look with many more real pieces of concept art? Go here and here.  Both are different, and Imagineer Tony Baxter detailed all the plans for Westcot on the second article. Still another missed opportunity by Disney. By hey, we got Pixar Pier and SanFransokyo, right?

Main Street Cinema Attraction Poster- Tokyo Style!

After decades of denial, its seems like real Disney theme park fans are finally beginning to acknowledge the truth:  When it comes to the same high standards Walt Disney believed in, be in stunning new attractions, guest value, or park and attraction maintenance, the Tokyo Disney Resort is the new gold standard. The love, attention to detail, and money the Oriental Land Company pours into the place is obvious!

This includes honoring Imagineering history and their wonderful park attraction posters. Here's a great one for the Main Street Cinema! The star of the show is front and center- Mickey Mouse himself. Disney's reliable, ultimate leading man- and corporate symbol- graces the front against a nice golden yellow backdrop.

Just a little image with a big grin to warm up a winter's day.

Who Told You That You Were A Man?

In the last several years, men have had a hard time getting any respect in our society. Even good men. Granted, there's been some pretty strong reasons for this. Namely a combination of men who abandon their women, families, and responsibilities for "freedom" and those in leadership positions who abuse their power for personal gain- sexual or otherwise. It happens just about everywhere you can imagine: political gatherings, boardrooms, movie studios, classrooms, living rooms, churches, and every conceivable place where people gather.

Women are rightfully fed up with it all, and they have most often have pushed to remove many men (including those not involved in abusive activities) from these positions rather than choosing to challenge and invest in making males better people. Replacing men with women is not the answer. Both genders and people from all cultures and backgrounds are prone to selfishness, hate, greed, abandonment, and predatory natures.

Although what I'm going to share today is not new, I am challenged by the material. The work will be yours and God’s to figure out how to step forward into wholeness. It's a process I plan to be in the middle of until the day I die.

"You can't measure manhood with a tape line around his biceps." Evangelist Billy Sunday

We Are Left Confused.

As men, we are robbed by valid images of manhood and transition to manhood by absentee men- unavailable fathers : Abusive or silent or emotionally detached, broken homes, consumed by career, etc.

We are also robbed by the deterioration of an extended family. There's a glaring lack of uncles, grandfathers, older brothers and other kinds of men that would be mentors. No, the answer isn't to replace men with women. That's a mistake. It's for men to take their proper place by investing in their families, communities, the places they live, work, and serve.

Dude looks like a lady.

Distorted ideas of Real Men.

The media is still trying desperately to change the definition of a man.
Both in Reel and in Real life. We've got the bumbling dad who knows nothing. This seemed to be started in our generation by the television show “Home Improvement”. Then add in the nontraditional families in our society, including gang life. Thankfully, there's some pushback to the feminized version of men... and there's pushback to the "toxic male" stereotype as well.

On the other end, we have the "Superstar Men", athletes, rock stars, business moguls, that present a very small percentage of men but are portrayed as something we all must aspire to. Equally ugly and unattainable. Unless you are constantly focused on what a real man is as defined by Our Creator, you will constantly be left feeling inadequate and maybe even unmotivated to stay the course.

Lack of Cultural Traditions.

In the modernized Western world, we have all but removed any sense of ceremony or task completion to mark the transition of a child to a man.  That does not mean it is no longer important.

I say begin your own! In our family, on the 13th birthday of each of our children (we had 2 boys and 2 girls), we gathered with significant people in their lives of the same gender, allowing them to speak encouraging words to them, challenge them, and then in the Christian tradition, pray over them.

So, I have some questions for you to consider:

• When Did You Realize You Were A Man?
• What Steps Seemed Most Significant in your Quest for Manhood?
• Who Told You That You Were A Man?

Are our wives, children, and friends asking the same questions about us? They might be.

We might be asking ourselves (a I have often)- "Have I created a hole so deep by just surviving that I'm afraid to take those drastic steps toward health?

Proverbs 23:7 says,  "For as he thinketh within himself, so is he."  (American Standard Version)

We can't be all God has for us without allowing Him to continue his work in us. He has to change us- and when He changes us, it is always for the good. Why? God Himself is the definition of what is good.

Where We Can Get Stuck

“In secure possession of their gender identity, the great majority of men moved from the chest, as it were, out of hearts freed from the Legalisms of Childhood,  the Narcissisms of Adolescence, or the Perfectionisms of an Adulthood spent futilely seeking self acceptance (or even the affirmation of parents).”
Leeann Payne, Crisis in Masculinity;  page 13

Question:  Let’s look at these and see if we find ourselves here in one spot or in many…Again, from Leeann Payne:

 “Legalisms of Childhood”

This may be best represented by Pharisees- the other end from Hedonism. Telling others what to do and how to do it- setting themselves up as an example. There's a list of Do’s and Don’ts, Shoulds and Shouldn’ts. It is performance driven and oriented. “Fair” is a big deal, “The Way Things Should Be”. With this, our lives are under expectations, judgments, and curses. Those who follow this way of living tend to do the same to others. Roles are important, so relationships may be difficult. All this may tend toward a joyless life

Galatians 3:3
"Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?"  (NIV)

“Narcissisms of Adolescence ”

This may be best represented by Samson. He was a slave to passion with a lack of self-control and a huge ego.  He was under a Nazarite vow to control the carnal nature but indulged it with his relationships with Philistine women. And it led to disaster. Every time we follow our sexual lusts, we are headed for disaster. It's all about my needs and wants, my time, my interests, my hobbies- “It’s All About Me”, “What’s in it for me?” Because of this mindset, men in this direction tend to reject structures and standards that benefit the common good. No one wins.  Commitment may be a one way street; Relationships are probably many but may be shallow. This man fears growing up and taking responsibility.  May tend toward living life through his children. He's probably ver vulnerable to addictions.

Ephesians 4:22-24
"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;  to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."  (NIV)

“Perfectionisms of Adulthood ”

The strive to be perfect is a trap as well! This may be best represented by King Saul, the Apostle Peter, and the Pharisees. There's a  high need to prove authority and position. Image and control are very important. This man will use words and actions to manipulate people to get what he wants. He's performance oriented and passes it on to others, making him an easy target for “secret sin”.

Philippians 2:2-4
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." (NIV)

"The Narcissisms of Adolescence"

These guys make fear based decisions and actions (or lack of action!).
It's mostly self-focused. Very difficult to think of or bless others. They can be emotionally inattentive to primary relationships. This man has difficulty focusing on God’s hand of blessing in their lives. He may often compensate for something lost or something never gained. For those of us married, we can turn “true godly leadership through servanthhood” over to our wives, leaving them burdened, confused and hurting. Those of us with children can leave them confused, too.

Ultimately, there's confusion about who we are as men. We have good intentions and can try to live lives that please God, but the truth is, we cannot fully bless others until we see how God has blessed us!

Jesus as Our Model of Manhood

He dealt with the same temptations as us (Hebrews 4:15). He took significant steps to Manhood.  For Jesus, this probably first happened at 12 years old when he went with his parents to Jerusalem at Passover and was later found in the temple. (Luke 2:41-52) There was verbal affirmation from other men (vs. 47). His parents saw him with “new eyes” (vs. 48). There was a process of growth and change (vs. 52).

Just look at what happened at his baptism-  Matthew 3:13-17
"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

Jesus took ownership of what was right (vs. 15). He was affirmed by the Father.

Jesus was tempted! Let's look at Matthew 4:1-11:

"Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.  After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:

"'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."

Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him."   (NIV)

Notice twice Satan says “If you are the Son of God…” questioning his identity in the Father. When Jesus doesn’t cave in, Satan offers him all the world has in exchange for His True Identity

Our Sonship, Our Manhood, Our Identity

Galatians 3:26-29
"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

The same experience as with Jesus will happen to us if we choose to live in the freedom and fullness we have in Jesus, if we follow God's ways as outlined in the Bible. We will be questioned by others our identity in Christ as sons of God. And we will sometimes question ourselves about our identity in Christ. Our enemy, Satan, through the ways of the world, will offer whatever he can in exchange for our Manhood, our True Identity! His offers will become available to us as we make choices along the way toward whatever we place before God, thereby setting our hearts up for deceit. It would be easy to stop here and ask the questions such as “What have we exchanged for our True Manhood, Our Godly Identity in Jesus?” But we know in all things, God's Word is true and His ways are best!

"So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go…" ( I Kings 2:1-3)

Christmas Family Devotional 2025, Week Two: God Keeps His Promises – “The Plan All Along”

Week Two of Four

God Keeps His Promises – “The Plan All Along”

Scripture: Matthew 1:21–23

“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. … and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us).”

Long before Jesus was born- in fact all the way back to the beginning of history- in the book of Genesis in Chapter 3, God promised that He would send someone to rescue people from their sin. He himself would pay the penalty we should be paying for its consequences. God himself loved us so much that He decided to fix the problem. All through history, people waited and even at times wondered if God would really follow through with what He said He would do. Those people whose hearts trusted God pleased Him, and they were seen as being in right standing with God even before Jesus showed up on the earth.

True to His word, Jesus the perfect sacrifice for our sin, did show up and right on time. His name “Immanuel” means God with us. That’s huge! It means God didn’t just send someone else to clean us our big mess; He came and did it Himself. No one else in Heaven or on Earth could do what Jesus accomplished! Jesus didn’t show up just to be a nice teacher or do miracles. He came to take away sin—the stuff in our hearts and the bad choices we make that separates us from God. He alone bring us back into a right relationship with Him.

God’s plan was always to rescue, not reject. That’s who He is: a Father who keeps His promises and does whatever it takes to bring His children home. What it took was living a perfect life and then going even further to die on a cross for our sin. Who else could have done that? No one!

Discussion Questions
  • What does it mean to you that God is “with us”? How does this change or affect the way you live?
  • Can you think of a time when it was hard to trust someone to keep a promise? How is God different?
  • Has God given you a promise from the Bible? Have you seen it happen yet? How do you feel about that?
  • How could you reflect God’s faithfulness by being someone others can count on?
Prayer

Stop and Thank God for who He is and what He accomplished. Tell Him the things that are on your heart- what you want and need from Him. Then tell Him the things you've done wrong or some of the bad thoughts you've had. Ask Him to forgive you and to give you strength to live in a way that pleases Him.

Day 11

It's day 11 of this flu that has taken over our home, our kids, and their kids. I can certainly see how illness can take over a thought life. This isn't fun by any stretch of the imagination. I knew I needed some time off, but this was not the way I wanted to get it.

Conquering Seasonal Depression

The seasonal blues, the Christmas depression, is much more common than we would want to admit. Especially as men. I've gone in and out of this most of my life. Yet, I've learned some tricks to help me conquer it and to keep going. Even as a follower of Jesus, we have to deal with real issues and cannot just act like they don't exist. If you struggle with depression, don't give up! Read on and be encouraged!

Thankfully, discussion about male depression is not as uncommon as it used to be.  We're freer than ever to be who we really are, and that's a good thing. Wintertime is the season where it is triggered in me big time, especially post holidays when life goes back to normal, and Spring seems far away. That said, I have a slight understanding of the ups and downs that can accompany the feeling of things not being 100% "right".

Although its less so than in years past, I have been constantly amazed by the general reluctance of the society and sometimes the faith community to discuss this very human condition. Yet, I have read two very interesting pieces in the New Testament where both the great Apostle Paul and even Jesus himself struggled with despair. Here's a quote from Paul written to the church in Corinth.

"We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we even despised of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened what we might not rely on ourselves, but on God,who raises the dead." (II Corinthians 1:8-9)

Jesus' words are even more important here, as He is God in the flesh: In the garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion, he says to Peter, James and John, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death." (Matthew 26:38)

How much more direct and descriptive can that be?

Personally speaking, it's taken me years to accept the fluctuations that come in life. I've been trained in the Southern California mindset of "Always sunny and free all the time". But life is not like that- which is why I am also so against the prosperity teachers that can populate the Christian airwaves and bookstores. They are a distortion of the truth of who God is and His Word.

How can I manage and even conquer life's ups and downs when leaning toward depression? A few things I have discovered: One, stay as far away from sin as possible! This will help you- realize that being tempted is NOT the same as sinning. There was something very, very  freeing in that realization. I can be tempted over and over again but I don't have to succumb. Jesus himself was tempted in every way, so I shouldn't feel bad when I'm tempted. Neither should you.

When I'm low, instead of looking toward the things that will seem to meet my needs in the moment but ultimately keep me addicted, I will ask for strength to avoid them. Why add to my problems by doing things I know will cause me to be more deeply depressed later? Be it excess food or alcohol, drugs, illicit sex, gambling, the internet, endless media binging, buying things I don't need etc, the actions which pacify our pain can also be the very ones that keep us captive instead of free. Pain can be a healthy sign that God is still working on my behalf, and there are things He wants to clean up for my own benefit.

Secondly, when my need feels great, when I am sad, or even when I am just craving what I know is ultimately destructive, I am training myself to see that as my clue I need more time with my heavenly father. Time for quiet reflection, prayer, worship, and reading my Bible can bring me back to a peaceful place. I've made the decision that my life belongs to Jesus, so why shouldn't I go right to Him when I know He can and will show tender care for me? He knows everything about me anyway- that's a scary thought at times- so I should look to Him and be 100% honest about where I'm at.

Lastly, I am developing a pattern of choosing to have a thankful heart. This is a choice and this is a battle for control of my thoughts. I am so blessed by God! Yet, how often do I long for more of everything and not be grateful for my life. It will never be perfect or free from want or conflict, so I might as well be as joyful, thankful and at peace as I can be. Again, the story is not over yet.

Years back, there was a brief season of a few months where I even took antidepressants on the advice of my doctor. That helped balance me out when I need it. Others need them as a long term part of their lives. If that's you, please consider it. God uses doctors to heal, too! Keep that in consideration if you struggle.

God is so faithful as we continue to look to Him for hope and strength. May my disclosure and insights help give those of you who struggle some ideas about how to live life well in the midst of difficulty.

Christmas with Karen Carpenter in 1973

Comedians Bill Skiles and Pete Henderson joined the Carpenters tour and even make an appearance on the duo's first live in concert album, Live in Japan. Obviously, the comedians also hit it off with Richard and Karen Carpenter. Here, Pete Henderson is seen next to Karen in the Carpenter family home in December of 1973. The tinsel covered Christmas tree shines little compared to that radiant, still healthy Ms. Carpenter. In just a few years, the successes and stresses of fame would take its deathly toll. It's too bad on so many levels! No one gives Christmas music the respect its deserves like Karen and Richard. Check out the duo's 1978 Christmas Portrait album and then 1984's An Old Fashioned Christmas, released a year after she passed. For a truncated version of these albums, Christmas Once More could be your best bet, but I'd buy the first two albums in full instead.

If you're a fan of the duo, keep your eyes open for something very special...

Christmas Family Devotional 2025, Week One: God Shows His Heart – “The Gift in a Manger”

The period of preparation for Christmas Day has always seemed to us the right time to try new ways of drawing our kids to Jesus. This happened year round too, but seemed so much more relevant when the season is sometimes focused on everything but what is most important and eternal. We realized that all too often, our kids would see us busy with activity and busyness. Shopping, decorating, and cooking, in addition to all the parties and gatherings we attend, kept us very busy. Although it was all fun, it was a lot of work- especially for the Moms!

Taking our eyes off the true reason for family celebration, we often fell into a trap of anger, impatience, and frustration. There was a sense of deep struggle as we tried make sure our kids really understood that all these things only point to a greater event- the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We thought, "How can this change?", so we put together these Family Devotionals. We've been sharing these on line now for many years as a source of encouragement to you.

We've set this up so that the devotional is split into four segments, with the final one giving you many days before Christmas morning to complete it all. Part Two will arrive here on the blog December 8. Part Three hits a week later on the 15th, and the final part December 22.

Our goal as parents is to train our children in the ways of the Lord and to see our children own a personal, ongoing, life-changing relationship with God. If you want to use this with your children, grandchildren, or children you love, consider these suggestions:

1.  Make this doable. Try to commit to a family devotional time.  Decide on a practical time. Avoid setting yourself up for failure. Adjust it as necessary so they enjoy the time- but also expect some “pushback”.  Remember, it’s about the relationship not the accomplishment. Guard against any discouragement if it doesn’t go as well as you wish, and be sure to guard against pride if it does.

2. Print this and keep this devotional on the dinner table. Explain to your kids why the book is there. Someone is bound to remember.

3. Model praying for your kids. It will be easier for them if they follow your lead. Praise and confession may be vague terms for younger ones. Explain the words. Start simply: “Lord, I praise you for being the God who loves us”, or   “I confess  I was mean to my sister today. Forgive me for hurting her feelings”.

4. Be honest with your family what you are praying for including your own sin and weakness. It models prayer to them as well as keeps you accountable.

5. If you have older children, allow them to share the responsibility of reading the verses. Leading them to Him is the goal.

----------

Week One of Four
God Shows His Heart – “The Gift in a Manger”

Scripture: Luke 2:10–11
“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’”

Imagine you’re one of the shepherds that night. You're just out there doing your job, looking after sheep. You think no one is paying attention to you or even appreciates your hard work. Suddenly the sky lights up with angels announcing good news of great joy. That’s not something that happens every night!

This “Good News” wasn’t just about a baby being born—it was about what that baby meant and the mission He came to accomplish. He was a touchable God! Through Jesus, God was showing His heart. He wasn’t distant or angry. He wasn’t unreachable. God the Father wanted the world to know that He cares deeply, loves completely, and came to pay the price for our sin. My sin. Your sin. All this so we can live in harmony with Him now. And we can spend eternity with Him instead of being separated from Him.

Think about that! The Creator of the Universe came to us in the most gentle, humble way possible. If we were the ones to choose how God would make his presence on the earth known, we might want Him to come in a great show of power. But not the God who created all things. He had a different and much better idea! That’s what God is like—He comes close when we need Him most- and His ideas are always better than ours.

When we look at Jesus, we see what God the Father is really like too. Jesus is kind, patient, forgiving, full of compassion and willing to sacrifice on our behalf. That’s God’s heart too.

Discussion Questions
  • Why do you think God chose to send Jesus as a baby instead of as a powerful king or warrior?
  • What does it show you about God’s character that He wanted to be close to us?
  • How can you show God’s kindness to someone who might feel left out or overlooked this week?
  • Who can you tell about Jesus and his wonderful plan for us?
Prayer

Stop and pray together as a family. Thank God for who he is. Then, stop and thank him for his wonderful gift!

An Epic (Universe) Decision

Ever since our visit to Universal Orlando Resort in 2021- the one where surprisingly I declared the Studios' incredible Diagon Alley to be the best themed land in any of the Florida parks- I have been staying on top of the construction of Epic Universe. Now, that it is open, my enthusiasm for seeing the park has only gotten stronger. A recent turn of events means I'll have to delay my trip even more. My son and his bride to be have decided to make Orlando the location of their honeymoon. I think it's only right that the man who introduced me to the worlds of Harry Potter gets first right to see Ministry of Magic in person. Don't you?

Memories of Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama

Early next year, Dinoland U.S.A. is fully set to close. Dinosaur aka Countdown to Extinction bites the bullet as the suits at the Walt Disney Company concede that the world of dinosaurs belongs to Universal's Jurassic Park franchise. This includes the earlier closure of  Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama.

While I consider this area a total failure solidly on the same level as California Adventure 1.0 to the Walt Disney Studios Paris at opening,  I do have some happy memories. The top photo on TriceraTop Spin is a family favorite.

The photo directly above is a funny one. Our wonderful friends took a ride on Primeval Whirl, a cheap carnival ride that made us laugh while we slammed into each other at every curve.

No, I won't defend this as the art of Imagineering, but the land had some clever elements to make up for the unimaginative rides. Still, glad to see it go in favor of Tropical Americas. The beautiful Disney's Animal Kingdom may just remain the best Imagineered and most consistent park in Disney's Florida kingdom.

First Snowfall of the Winter

I certainly do not love winter, but I was wondering when it would arrive. Today was the day, much later than it's ever been!

Snow Buddies

Just sent to me by our old next door neighbor, a photo time stamped March 2000. Now, she has a family of her own. My, how times goes by!
