The SHAG Piece That Started It All

While visiting Disneyland during its 50th anniversary year in 2009, I fell in love with a piece by artist Josh Agle aka Shag. I bit the bullet, and although money was a little tight, I purchased this very fun, retro, vintage, just plain COOL little map. I sat on the benches on Main Street U.S.A., and I watched merchandise fly off the shelves.

Sitting there watching it all got me to thinking of all the terrific pieces of Disney art, attraction posters, concept art that I had. I wanted to share it all and my love for music, family, friends, travel, and of course, my love for God who makes all things possible. There was this "one little spark of inspiration", and the blog was born!

Disney World's Shag-A-Delic Jungle Cruise

I'm pretty familiar with the stylistic art of Josh Agle aka Shag. His map for Disneyland, designed for its 50th Birthday celebration, hangs on my wall. He's done beautiful pieces for the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and of course, for Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. But I've never seen him do art for Walt Disney World- until now. This piece above for the classic Jungle Cruise oozes fun! Adventureland never looked so good! It's about time Disney fans give the World its due. It's not Disneyland and doesn't have Walt's personal touch, but it has a charm and vibe entirely its own. And Shag captures it quite well!

SHAG does Star Wars

The always great Josh Agle, otherwise known as SHAG, is a well known artist and lover of Disneyland. For the first time I can recall, he has produced a piece of Star Wars related art.

This could be a teaser for a whole line to celebrate the opening of Star Wars Land at Disneyland or Disney's Hollywood Studios or just a stand alone piece. Either way, it's a pretty nifty look at some major characters in the iconic film series.

Want more? Take a look at the latest (January 16) photo update from MouseInfo. You won't be disappointed.

Want more SHAG? He's on the Insights blog in other posts as well. Just do a quick search.

SHAG-adelic Star Wars

Not was I was expecting at all from the very talented Josh Agle aka SHAG, but still tons of fun! Let's just hope that when the Force Awakens in the Disney parks, it's a first class experience- even if it is sorely misplaced in Disneyland.

Shag-a-Delic Haunted Mansion

Welcome Foolish Mortals!

Perhaps only a handful of times in the life of the incredible Disney Imagineers that they get to be part of an attraction this beloved, and dare I say, immortal. Those involved in the creation of the beloved Haunted Mansion have this honor. The list of those involved reads like a Who's Who of Imagineering:  Marc Davis, Claude Coats, X Atencio, Ken Anderson, Yale Gracey, and many others.

Disneyland's original spook house has thrilled guests since 1969, a full forty five years.  It's a record of popularity and accomplishment unmatched by any other Disney attraction with the exception of Pirates of the Caribbean and perhaps to a lesser degree, the Jungle Cruise. The enduring popularity of the attraction has spawned other versions, but in my opinion, although each are great, none match the original Mansion in California. Phantom Manor  at Disneyland Paris and Mystic Manor in Hong Kong Disneyland are world class attractions, no doubt, but they owe their roots to this one.

Artist and Disney fan Josh Agle, aka SHAG, designed this incredible piece honoring the mansion at its 40th Anniversary. It's just great! I cannot wait to see what he will create for the 50th!

Speaking of the 50th, perhaps the Imagineers that brought back the Hat Box Ghost are planning to surprise us with even more enhancements...

Shag-a-delic Fantasyland

It's so terrific! That's my first response to this new piece by artist  Josh Agle aka Shag. His Haunted Mansion and Tiki Room pieces are terrific, and there's something just as charming about this Fantasyland piece. Love the inclusion of the Skyway and the Chicken of the Sea Pirates Ship! Retro Disneyland was so cool!

Shagtastic!

Josh Agle, otherwise known as the artist Shag, creates some of my favorite Tiki inspired artwork. Naturally, he is the perfect choice to design objects of art to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland

With a blizzard in Denver, just a look at this beautiful piece makes me a little bit sunnier...
