EPCOT's Israel Showcase- An Unbuilt Gem

Imagineer Herb Ryman's beautiful Israel pavilion for EPCOT Center deserves to be built. Painted in June of 1982, shortly after the park's grand opening, this piece of concept art captures all the warmth, history, and beautiful architecture the country is known for. You can feel yourself walking down the streets and exploring the courtyards. That's Herb! It even made the infamous list of coming attractions to Epcot. Take a look below.

Back when Epcot was truly forward looking, the Disney Imagineers had great plans for additions that celebrated human ingenuity and culture with a beautiful design plan to keep guests coming in for decades. But greed and lack of vision altered that plan, so now we have Marvel characters, Disney princesses, and friendly fowl replacing  scientific theory, legendary trolls, and Aztec and Mayan culture.

The blueprint for Israel (shown above) has been in circulation for quite awhile, and it shows the expected mix of shops, a cafe or restaurant, and an entertainment venue. Blow the image up and explore a bit! It might make you wish this had come to pass- although it did in a much smaller version for the Millennium celebration. I saw it first hand, and it was quite interesting.

A photo of Israel at the Millennium Celebration.

In the real world, Israel is under attack from Hamas and with the help of Iran apparently. But don't worry just pray. For whatever reason, the Almighty God has called Israel his chosen people, and He will not let the nation be destroyed. Many nations have tried, some have even conquered the land, but the people endure. And they will do so until the end of time when Jesus returns to earth and brings judgment to both those that love Him and those that do not. I do not know about you, but I do not want to be against anything or anyone God is for! (Is it time to once again crack open that book of Revelation in the Bible's New Testament?) No, everything Israel does is not perfect, but God will judge that too. (Nations are just like people, aren't they?)

In the fake world of Epcot, World Showcase badly needs this Israel addition! It is very Eurocentric, and fleshing it out with a country from the Middle East would be a smart albeit risky move.

The proposed, delayed and forever not yet announced Brazil addition would be a good place to refresh this half of the park by bringing a new country and culture to explore. It needs more than Ratatouille. (Find out more in these posts with artwork included. Post One. Post Two.) Even if it is only shopping, restaurants and some entertainment, World Showcase needs this, and the "new" Epcot especially.  In a fantasy world geared toward kids and Disney intellectual properties, the roots of World Showcase should not be ignored. But that's just one man's opinion. Is it yours?

Could Disney's Wish Movie Finally Bring Spain to Epcot?

Could Epcot's World Showcase finally be getting a new pavilion? I'm placing my bets that Disney's new Fall 2023 film Wish finally gets the gorgeous and never yet built Spain to finally come to Walt Disney World. Will Imagineering be given the go ahead by Josh D'Amaro? I thin so- and here's why.

I'd like to say that the original plan for Epcot included plans for many more countries for World Showcase is the reason. But it is not true. Most all those masters of Imagineering 1.0 have passed on. Many of the recent greats with ties to the old masters and their ways of doing things have moved on. So, we know this is not the reason. It boils down to three main issues:

1- The EPCOT transformation has not been seen as "that" successful by die hard fans or the public. After many years and too much wasted money, folks are seeing that Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, and the minor add Journey of Water Inspired by Moana is just not enough and definitely not compelling enough to build a trip or. Nor will it be enough to compete with Universal's upcoming Epic Universe. Other plans announced or hinted at- Mary Poppins, the Spaceship Earth redo, PLAY! and the Brazil showcase- have fallen by the wayside or deemed vastly unpopular and taken out. What, again, was the name of that monstrous failure of a nighttime water show?

A new country to explore with an attraction that could hold promise based on the movie's storyline would give more for the little ones to do while providing additional dining and shopping opportunities. Spain has already proven to be a beloved and successful stall at the Food & Wine Festival. Why stop there?

Once planned, never built.

2- The Intellectual Property mandate. Like it or not, and I'm not fond of it for Epcot, this is the course all four parks are headed. Enough said on that, right? I'd rather have the Future World and World Showcase of old but it seems the suits are pandering to the old Universal model of being parks about their movies instead of individual, highly themed parks that include some movie related attractions to strengthen the focus. An individual Intellectual Property themed land would not fit in this park, but one that highlights a culture (fictitious or "close enough to a real one) certainly would.

3- The Money. Perhaps the ultimate bottom line. The leaders of the Walt Disney Company finally realize that making significant investment to the parks brings in the most revenue for a consistent amount of time is a major driver for investors. Something is needed to fill all those Disney Vacation Club additions. Disney+ is a bust, and something must change to bring in the bucks. It's time to go back to the business model that worked- and one that made theme park fans happy.

Now about the movie itself.

The upcoming Wish film takes place on the Iberian peninsula. Spain as a new pavilion location is a perfect fit. As you can see from this concept art above, the flavor of what was once proposed fits in perfectly with art from the movie as seen at the top of this post.

Main heroine Asha fits the mold of a likable lead, and my hunch is she is rightful heir to the throne of villain King Magnifico. So you can add in another princess promotion. Toss in a lovable sidekick, a beautiful landscape, a handful of magic, and perhaps most importantly, plans for a pavilion that already exist, and you have all the makings of a fresh take on an old once planned addition to a park that needs something new on the lagoon skyline.

Is it the best plan? Absolutely not. Is it one that would fit the original Imagineering model for this park? Not even close. But these days, a Wish inspired Spain may be the best we get.

Ready for some paella? I just think I might be ok with this. Maybe.

Could Spain Be Added To Epcot's World Showcase?

Do you think the old Epcot is dead? Yes, I do as well. But oh, what it could have been! Back in the day, there were plans for ten or twenty more countries to be added to World Showcase! This piece of concept art for the addition of Spain is just beautiful! Thanks to Marni1971 over at the WDWMagic Boards, we get this teaser. Once again, we may never see the days of old, but the original Imagineers for this park had grand plans! Russia, Switzerland, Venezuela, Israel, Equitorial Africa...and the list goes on and on.

Plans for Russia at World Showcase

Take a look at this beauty! OK, one day, I should probably finish my mega article on the proposed Russia pavilion for World Showcase at Epcot. But not today. I will, however, share this piece of concept art showing the once planned sled ride through the Russian countryside. No doubt the Imagineers plans were grand and expensive with more than one real attraction, several eateries, plenty of shops, and a variety of cultural entertainment. But what a draw to the park this would have been. It would have been show stopping!

The addition of the Ratatouille ride to France is one I'm looking forward to as it is my favorite Pixar film, but it has always been the shows and attractions based on the history and culture of the people that have made World Showcase a place I can spend days in. Bring on Brazil or India or somewhere else, but please give us more than beloved animated characters and iconic Marvel properties into my favorite Florida park. Dig deeper, strive harder, take risks. In a world where "cancel culture" is taking over, it is time to remember our real history- both good and bad- and celebrate the positive with hope for the future. Isn't that what EPCOT Center was all about?

Rare Concept Art: World Showcase in the Round

Imagineer Harper Goff's World Showcase own concept art and others' pieces from his collection looks quite a bit different than what was eventually built. Let's take a closer look at this fascinating rendering.

Imagine that Future World is at the bottom of this piece, with The American Adventure represented by the circle with spokes coming from the center. World Showcase Lagoon comprising the open space in the middle.

The model of Morocco.

The Republic of Costa Rica.

Let's start our tour as if it were a clock by beginning at the number 7. In place of Mexico, the first pavilion we'd encounter would be Morocco, followed by Costa Rica, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand, with Switzerland finishing off the first quadrant. All new and still unbuilt countries from what we ended up with at opening.

The German River Cruise- another unbuilt attraction.

Moving to the next segment around the clock-like image, the next set of pavilions are Holland, "West Germany", Brazil, Japan and Poland. Notice that there is an empty space where The American Adventure is currently found. Above is a photo of the model of Germany's Rhine River Cruise. Looks very immersive and therefore, very, very expensive. With cost overruns, it is not a surprise that the project was cut.

Upper and lower Japan.

Here's two floorplans for Japan, one for the first main level and one for the second level. I left these in their original form. (If you want to see the largest collection of concept art for the Japan showcase on the web, go to my blog post here: Part One and Part Two - The second part includes a look at the unbuilt Omnimover ride.)

The second half of World Showcase is no less interesting than what we've seen so far. The third segment begins with Italy, then Great Britain, "Safari Africa", France, and then Mexico

Morocco floorplan.

In the last quadrant, the one that brings us back to the border of Future World and World Showcase, we find Scandinavia, Israel, South Korea, Canada and Saudi Arabia. I find it very interesting that two countries with architecture influenced by Islam would flank the entrance to all the international pavilions once you pass the American showcase.

Noticeably missing are China and Norway. But then, so are the ones proposed in the future: Russia and Spain. Just goes to show how often the partnerships with foreign companies changed year to year. Wouldn't you love to see more of what was planned for these? Or even better, see them come to fruition?

Before D23- A Guide to Epcot's World Showcase Favorites

It was our first trip to EPCOT Center in 1983. We were newly married, and my wife was about to discover my Disney theme park obsession at a whole new level. This second Disney park in Florida would be the first new park we discovered together. How exciting!

The evening we arrived at Walt Disney World, the still sleek monorail to the park from the Transportation and Ticket Center took us through the evening darkness into the park. It was very late, but as was the practice back then, the park stayed open much later than it does now. It was a beautifully warm Florida night.

As we rounded the bend into the park, Future World shone in its nighttime glory. I couldn't wait to explore it all! Then we glimpsed the World Showcase lagoon and all the pavilions sitting like sparkling jewels against it. It was just too much for this guy to take. I barely slept that night anticipating experiencing a whole new Disney park for the very first time. It's not too often we get to do that!

I still get a rush walking into this park. Yes, it is not what it once was- and it will never be again- yet, it's still quite the experience. With that in mind, I'd like to take you on a tour of my favorite places in World Showcase one country at a time. You might be surprised by my choices. Sometimes, I'll highlight an attraction. But it might be a shop, restaurant, or even an experience. My list has probably changed over time, but as this section of the park has experienced the least amount of expansion / re-imagineering, it's fairly consistent. This will be a fun diversion before we know all the plans for the park this weekend from D23.

We normally begin our World Showcase tour in Mexico, but for this post, we'll start counter clockwise and head into Canada. C'mon everybody! Here we go...

Love this Imagineering concept art!

Canada: A pleasant stroll through Victoria Gardens is my top pick for our first stop. The original (and still the best) O Canada film is pretty good and the overpriced Le Cellier serves delicious meals, but the gifted Disney landscape architects hit a home run with this mini creation of the famous Butchart Gardens. Part of the Epcot experience is slowing down, similar to touring Disney's Animal Kingdom. Attractions are expected and important, but they not to be enjoyed at the expense of the rest of the thoughtful design of this park.

Photo from the Disney Parks Blog.

United Kingdom: Until the suits approve that long planned and needed Mary Poppins attraction (unfortunately presumed to be a carousel according to those in the know), The Tea Caddy and the cluster of small shops is the highlight here. We haven't eaten in the Rose and Crown in years, as we've enjoyed real fish and chips and other specialties while being in the U.K., but it is an enjoyable place to stop and watch the nighttime show.

Ah the gorgeous music!
When the film gets updated, the music had better remain.

France: Hands down, my pick here is Impressions de France. Yes, I know, the film needs updating badly, but they had better not touch that beautiful score! The music accompanying the movie is magic on its own. Remy's Ratatouille's Adventure should be great fun, and it's my favorite Pixar movie, but this journey through France will remain beloved and my first choice. Eating here is always fun, with a variety of choices to please every palate and thickness of wallet.

Photo from my most recent visit.

Morocco: This largely ignored pavilion is truly unique in that artisans from Morocco under the direction of King Hassan II did much of the striking tile work found throughout. The prayer tower, a replica of the one in Marrakesh, is a focal point, but it's only the beginning of what you'll find. (By the way, from the right angle you can see Hollywood Studios' Twilight Zone Tower of Terror- and you'll notice how it easily fits in with the style of this World Showcase pavilion. Gotta love the thoughtfulness of the earlier era Imagineers!) My choice here? The Fez House. You've got to explore around to find it, but step inside, and you're a million miles away from Florida... and you can see from walking the alleyways of Morocco where they got the inspiration for Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. May I add a second choice? Stop and talk to the cast members / nationals working here. It's a good reminder that even if Muslims worship a different God than Christians, (Muslims consider Jesus only a great prophet. Their god is Allah. Christians believe Jesus is God in the flesh), they can be just as kind and delightful as anyone else. Sure, there are "bad apples" in every group, so avoid generalizations and take the time to talk to the cast in each country.

Imagineers' art for an unbuilt Omnimover ride.

Japan: Confession mode- I could spend a few hours exploring this single showcase, and I'd encourage you to do the same. Listening to the drummers or watching the candy maker is always time well spent. As a young adult, Japan was my first destination choice for my solo trip out of the country, and I've never lost my love and fascination with the country, the people, and the culture. A very late evening stop at the Katsura Grill is the perfect way to end the day. While crowds are headed out of the park, we love to climb up the steps in the back of Japan to this small patio. The quick service location is usually closed by this point in time, making it a lovely way to reflect on the day. Then as a bonus if you time it right, you get to walk back to the park entrance with so few people, making it the prime time for some nighttime photos. If you want to read more about all the Imagineers once planned for the Japan showcase- and it's incredible- go here.

Imagineering concept art.

The American Adventure: This Audio-Animatronic theater show is king! At its best, Disney inspires- and Walt himself and the original Imagineers were a patriotic bunch. It's sadly in vogue to bash and trash the United States these days, but God knows, you have to think twice after watching this presentation. Listen to The Voices of Liberty musical group. Such talent! There's not much else here, which is odd given it is the host pavilion, but maybe one day there will be.

Beautiful surroundings await.

Italy: Here in Italy, dining is king. Each destination reveals both familiar and unexpected choices. From the humblest of drinks and ice creams to lavish meals and freshly fired pizza, the restaurants help even the fussiest eaters find something to love... and don't overlook the waterside Venician style gondolas. Unlike those at Tokyo DisneySea, you can't get a ride, but they still photograph well! Walk around and explore the nooks and crannies of this re-imagined St. Mark's Square in Venice. From being to the real one, (here's my trip report), I can tell you the Disney Imagineers crafted their recreation with a loving and detailed hand.

A memorable "Date night" with Grandma and Grandpa.

Germany: Perhaps it is because of some recent memories, but the  Biergarten reigns as my top choice here, my Number One favorite experience in Germany. The live music and show entertain, and it gives family members a chance to dance together in the cool of the indoor restaurant. The food was better than I thought it would be, but that was secondary to the memories we made! When you shop, don't miss all the clocks. I just wish they also had a wider selection of nutcrackers since I have a few prized ones from my trips to Germany.

One day I will visit this country!

China: Top pick here? Reflections of China. It's a very lovely Circle Vision 360 film. When the park opened years ago, only a few privileged folks were able to travel overseas to this destination. Now, it's more common, but it is still a treat to experience a slice of the culture. Take in the acrobats, explore the shops, and even look at the models and concept art for Shanghai Disneyland. In today's Disney, synergy is a game everyone plays. Like it or not, it's all about the money.

It's difficult to hate Olaf.
Photo from Laughing Place.

Norway: I hate to admit it, but Anna and Elsa's attraction has grown on me. I absolutely detest several aspects of Frozen Ever After (the placement, the transformation of World Showcase into Magic Kingdom 2.0, the low end budget given the ride once it was decided upon), but there are parts that unexpectedly charmed me.

Always changing- for better or worse.

Mexico: I guess now that it's long gone, El Rio del Tiempo doesn't count anymore. It's been replaced by Gran Fiesta Tour, but that newer attraction still makes it my first choice and top pick. Not the entire boat ride mind you, but the first minute or so cruising the lagoon toward the ancient temple is true Disney magic. Back when this part of the park was about culture and not Disney animated properties and live action films, El Rio del Tiempo and its catchy song spoke EPCOT Center to me almost as much as Journey Into Imagination. Two totally different attractions and executions, but still full of Disney magic. On our last trip, our dinner at La Hacienda de San Angel was a surprise- one of our best meals of the entire vacation. Listen to the mariachis, drink a margarita, and enjoy the sights and flavors.

Will Coco come to Mexico? Will Brazil finally be announced? What else is coming? We will find out more in a few days!

Rare Epcot Concept Art for United Arab Emirates in World Showcase

Disney's upcoming D23 is a true fan favorite! And for this year, the Parks exhibition promises to be filled with expansion plans and concept art for the revisioning of Epcot aka EPCOT Center. Future World and the new entrance to the park will certainly be the focus of most of it, but the under developed World Showcase will not be left in the construction dust!

Brazil is coming- which makes fans all the more curious as to what happened for the plans once designed. Israel, Venezuela, Spain, and Equatorial Africa were also on the drawing boards, among others. (Look to find concept art for Israel here, Australia here, older concepts for Brazil, art for the Philippines, amazing art for Russia, a beautiful concept for Spain, and of course Equatorial Africa.)

Top view of the model.

Thanks to a recent posting on the WDWMagic Boards by "Herbie" we finally can see the some concept art for the long forgotten United Arab Emirates pavilion designed back for the late 70s by the Imagineers. (Confirmed by the much respected Martin Smith). With a little bit of (poor) Photoshop magic, I was able to clean up the top piece, removing the title words from the plans- just to make it look a little nicer.

It would have been nice to add one more country to complement the beautiful Morocco pavilion.

The original piece in the folio.

Will we ever see this country added to the line up? I sincerely doubt it. Human rights violations and a tense political environment in the Middle East will probably keep it coming to fruition. Even recently, Princess Haya fled the country with her children to seek asylum. Yet, every country- even ours- has its secrets and shortcomings, so you never know what will happen in the future. It's a beautiful region, rich with history and wonderful people!

One last piece filled with art for a magic carpet ride... only to prove that the real world is as beautiful and inspiring as anything the Imagineers can come up with for Intellectual Property such as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Israel Before Brazil

Here's Imagineer Herb Ryman's beautiful Israel pavilion for EPCOT Center. Painted June of 1982, shortly after the park's grand opening, this piece of concept art captures all the warmth, history, and beautiful architecture the country is known for.

The blueprint (shown above) for the pavilion has been in circulation for quite awhile, and it shows the expected mix of shops, a cafe or restaurant, and an entertainment venue. Blow the image up and explore a bit! It might make you wish this had come to pass- although it did in a much smaller version for the Millennium celebration.

Certainly, World Showcase needed this addition! As the park stands now, it is very Eurocentric, and fleshing it out with a country from the Middle East would have been a smart move.

The proposed but not yet announced Brazil adition would be a good place to refresh this half of the park by bringing a new country and culture to explore. (Find out more in these posts with artwork included. Post One. Post Two.) Even if it is only shopping, restaurants and some entertainment. Perhaps we will know more at D23. Here's hoping!

Australia was Coming to World Showcase

Australia for EPCOT Center's World Showcase was on the map and in the model! Long ago, unfortunately. As you can tell, the Sydney Opera House would have made a great waterside landmark. But it never came to be, nor did that contemporary looking building that was a version of the American Adventure. If you notice, there's a few other pavilions that are there, including one that eventually showed up in an entirely different location.

Nice Opera House!

Brazil is coming- and you can see the original model here. But honestly, since EPCOT Center was my favorite Disney Florida park, I continue to love looking at would could have been! I have tons of concept art and more on the blog. Renderings for unbuilt attractions and more. Concepts for Spain, Venezuela, Philippines, Israel, Equatorial Africa and more. (Did you know there were once plans for a Netherlands showcase? Or was that for a different project altogether? That piece is coming later this month or so.)

I just love World Showcase- always have! From the opening of the park, it was just the perfect addition, perfect counterpoint, to the glitzy technological charms of Future World. More to come!

Original Brazil Model for EPCOT Center's World Showcase

The original model for Brazil's World Showcase pavilion at Epcot shows a slice of what is a take on Copacabana's famous boardwalk in Rio de Janeiro. If I'm not mistaken, that's also a statue of Christ of the Andes (also known as Christ the Redeemer) in the upper left hand corner. Older concept art, seen below, shows this would have been part of the original proposal to add this South American country to the lineup of the park.

Certainly a classic steakhouse is part of the plan. That part we know as its been leaked by those terrific insiders on the WDWMagic site. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, as of this time it seems as if no attraction is planned. Bummer. Does a small soccer field count? Perhaps this holdover from the above old concept art will make the cut. There's more renderings to be found if you research the net.

Blog Mickey's mock up of the location of the new pavilion.

Blog Mickey shows us on a map where the pavilion will go: smack between Italy and Germany. Definitely bringing a new profile to World Showcase as guests look across the lagoon. It's about time, isn't it? That half of the park has been fairly stagnant for too long.

Given the direction the park is taking, maybe The Three Caballeros will move to Brazil if Coco comes to Mexico. Stranger things have happened!

EPCOT's Other World Showcase

As Epcot transitions into Magic Kingdom 2.0, it seems as if Animal Kingdom will become the new World Showcase with its emphasis on natural environments and culturally based food and music. (Or in the case of Pandora, the Otherworld Showcase.) Yet, us long time fans of the original EPCOT Center know it was not supposed to play out that way. The archives of Imagineering are studded with concept art for new countries waiting to be added.

How many, you say? Israel, Equatorial Africa, Russia, Switzerland, Venezuela, Spain and the Philippines were all ready to go each at various levels of development. Philippines? Yes, that beautiful Southeast Asian country made up of over 7,000 islands was once on the books- and here is the concept art to show it.

Looking closely at this piece, some unique elements are easily seen, but did you notice the Epcot guests upstairs in the second level? There are not too many pavilions in which you can go upstairs unless it is to dine in one of the many restaurants.

Not much more is known about what was planned for the Philippine showcase, but certainly this addition would have brought a nice change of pace from the other more familiar Asian nations represented. Truth is, in all these years since opening, almost any new country added to Epcot would have been a plus. That long list of potential additions would have easily made Epcot a three day park. So much for the past. Change is coming, and like it or not, it's long overdue.

Brazil Comes to Epcot's World Showcase

All I can say about this is "It's about time a new country was added to the line-up of World Showcase!" The country of Brazil is about to be added to Epcot. With D23 just around the corner and the Walt Disney World Resort soon to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, the time is now for something new to be added to "Disney's Food, Wine, Flower, and Anything Else That Will Fit" theme park.

Concept art looks promising. Doesn't it always?

Just when was this announcement made, you might ask. Well, the great folks at WDWMagic - who by the way tend to break the news on just about every Florida park news- subtly dropped the info in the last few days. I won't share what thread, as you'll have to discover it yourself. Others may claim to have the scoop, but trust me, the insiders on their boards really do get the news before others. Make sure you look to the rumor threads if you want to get the latest and most likely to happen news.

Imagineering concept art even looks good in black and white.

Of course, things are always subject to change. But don't dismiss the ridiculous. Guardians of the Galaxy did actually come to California Adventure's Tower of Terror. So expect the unexpected.

The very top rendering isn't Disney, by the way. It's from an artist known as Jader, and it's up for sale as a benefit to UNICEF. Look here

Epcot's Spain

This is just too awesome not to share. You're looking at concept art for the unbuilt Spain pavilion at Epcot's long underdeveloped but lovely World Showcase. Thanks to Marni1971 over at the terrific WDWMagic Boards, we have this to gaze upon. Take an gander at all those beautiful details. Sure, current rumors may suggest that Brazil is the next to come, but if so, it had better be incredible to compete with this!

Karen Carpenter in Brazil

The Summer Olympics 2016 are over, but recent events like those surrounding Ryan Lochte will keep the country of Brazil in the news headlines for months to come.

With that in mind, I stumbled across these interesting photos of Karen Carpenter as she and brother Richard were busy promoting their newest album, Make in America there. Brazil's famed Sugarloaf Mountain looks to be the location here.

Upon close examination, Karen looks thin but very stylish. And it seems as if her time posing for her photo sessions for the aborted solo project were put to good use. There are very few times she looked comfortable in front of the cameras, but this seems to be one of them.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't be much longer after this time that the beloved singer would be gone, leaving millions of fans in shock and mourning.

Brazil for Epcot's World Showcase

Watching the Olympics sure makes me wish Disney Imagineering had gone ahead with their plans for an Epcot World Showcase version of Brazil! Of course, nowadays, any new thing added to World Showcase which actually focuses on the nation vs. a cartoon character would be welcome.

Black and white is also nice!

The concept art above, in color and in black and white, makes a pretty impressive statement. Either way, it's a shame it never made it past the drawing boards. First found on the great WDWMagic site courtesy an insider...

Taking a Second Look

The last few weeks have been a rather difficult one for the Insights blog. Due to absolutely no fault at all of the Disney News Central site- and certainly all the fault of my own, my blog posts would not show up on the list. My friend Alain Littaye and I worked very hard to fix the problem. Thankfully, he figured it out, so I am back up to date! (Update: Problem is happening again!)

Here's a direct link to each post you may have missed, and there's some gems: concept art for unbuilt Epcot pavilions, the lost mountain of the Magic Kingdom, art for Disneyland's unbuilt Haunted Mansion on Main Street(!) and the most extensive history of Disney's Hollywood Studios I have ever seen- concept art, trip report (over the 25 years) and more.

Enjoy! And thanks for your patience!

Concept Art for Brazil at Epcot

Anyone who has visited Walt Disney World at the right time has run into scores of tourists from Brazil. The Brazilians love the Disney experience so much that it didn't take the suits and Imagineers long to think they should build a Brazil showcase at Epcot
Nice in black and white too!
So, before it disappears from the site in which it came from, here's a version of the art. Copy it quick if you want it. Soon to disappear.
