Invitation to a Very Personal Place

Have you ever been invited to join someone into something so personal, so intimate, so meaningful, that it is almost tempting to run away from it? This is what the time of communion is. A time when Jesus Himself interacts with us as we remember his life and death and resurrection on our behalf. By partaking of the bread and the juice- representing his broken body and his shed blood- we are drawn into a very intimate place.

These two scriptures today drew me in:

From the Apostle Paul as written in 1 Corinthians 11:23-28:

For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

And then from the writer of Hebrews, chapter 10:19-25:

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

If you believe, if you consider yourself someone that loves and follows the Lord Jesus Christ, take time today to stop, examine yourself, be honest about your doubts, your sins, your weaknesses and your needs, and go to Him.

What a privilege we have as Christians to interact with our very Living God on this personal a level!
