Indeed!

This was impossible. Were the women really seeing what was right in front if them? Early in the morning as the sun broke, they had gone to the tomb. Unexpectedly, what they found there startled them, scared them, and filled them with joy they never expected to have. "Don't be afraid." what an appropriate thing for this heavenly being to speak to the ladies. Quite fitting actually as many times, angelic beings began with these words before sharing something significant to humans. The next words out of his mouth stunned them: Jesus has risen from the dead and is going into Galilee. You'll see him there. In these days, the testimony of women was not considered reliable. The very fact that God continued to share incredible truths with women as well as men generation after generation was one more proof of their value. As they headed out from there to tell the disciples that Jesus had risen, they encountered him on the road. What they did next is what all mankind should be doing- they fell at his feet and worshiped him. Jesus, the one fully God and fully man had conquered death on a cross, proving he was who He said. His words, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." He wasn't being exclusive; He was being inclusive- making sure everyone had a chance to hear the truth when he knew false prophets would broadcast lies. Jesus told it straight up. No one will get to heaven without believing, having faith that He is who He says he is. Jesus has Risen. Indeed! 

 

The Unexpected Silence

The absolute silence was so loud it was deafening. Could this really be happening? Even if things went on as they always did, the truth was that the man they looked to was dead. He had promised so much. A new life. Hope. Peace. Joy in the midst of pain. And an eternity with God the Father. He said He alone was the path to heaven. He said following Him was a very narrow path but He was the only truth. The self-proclaimed king promised He was the one to give real life when the world only offered a counterfeit in an attempt to steal their lives and their future. Shockingly, the very people he'd come to love and care for betrayed him. At the direction of the authorities, the soldiers beat him to a bloody pulp. He was so weak, so broken, so physically shattered, that a man pulled out from the crowd was "recruited" to carry his cross. The very cross that he would hang on next to two common criminals. All he had done was challenge the system and offer freedom. But people didn't like that, so he paid the ultimate price. Spikes were pound into his hands and feet. Then he was raised up as if on display to those watching. Both his mother and his best friend watched with a mix of deep sorrow and confusion. The weather shifted, and the sky blackened as if in response to what was happening on the earth below. As he bled until the end, he asked his Heavenly Father to forgive them. His famous last words seemed odd: "It is finished." Those who followed him went home broken hearted.

Victorious Love

Easter Sunday is here! I am shocked by the number of faithful people who choose to think of Jesus as the broken martyr who had no choice but to die on the cross for our sins. Think about it: The Biblical truth is that Jesus completed the mission God the Father gave Him. This makes Jesus a victorious king and not a victim.

^^^ Imagine this being your sole mission in life!

You just have to read the following passage today that describes the Resurrection of Jesus.... then ask yourself, "Was Jesus the victim or the victorious king?"

He is Risen Indeed!

Resurrection!

Early in the morning on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone was moved away from the entrance. She ran at once to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, breathlessly panting, "They took the Master from the tomb. We don't know where they've put him."

Peter and the other disciple left immediately for the tomb. They ran, neck and neck. The other disciple got to the tomb first, outrunning Peter. Stooping to look in, he saw the pieces of linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Simon Peter arrived after him, entered the tomb, observed the linen cloths lying there, and the kerchief used to cover his head not lying with the linen cloths but separate, neatly folded by itself. Then the other disciple, the one who had gotten there first, went into the tomb, took one look at the evidence, and believed. No one yet knew from the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead. The disciples then went back home.

But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. As she wept, she knelt to look into the tomb and saw two angels sitting there, dressed in white, one at the head, the other at the foot of where Jesus' body had been laid. They said to her, "Woman, why do you weep?"

"They took my Master," she said, "and I don't know where they put him." After she said this, she turned away and saw Jesus standing there. But she didn't recognize him.

Jesus spoke to her, "Woman, why do you weep? Who are you looking for?"
She, thinking that he was the gardener, said, "Mister, if you took him, tell me where you put him so I can care for him."

Jesus said, "Mary."

Turning to face him, she said in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" meaning "Teacher!"

Jesus said, "Don't cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, 'I ascend to my Father and your Father, my God and your God.'"

Mary Magdalene went, telling the news to the disciples: "I saw the Master!" And she told them everything he said to her.

Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, "Peace to you." Then he showed them his hands and side.

The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were exuberant. Jesus repeated his greeting: "Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you."

Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. "Receive the Holy Spirit," he said. "If you forgive someone's sins, they're gone for good. If you don't forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?"

But Thomas, sometimes called the Twin, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples told him, "We saw the Master."

But he said, "Unless I see the nail holes in his hands, put my finger in the nail holes, and stick my hand in his side, I won't believe it."

Eight days later, his disciples were again in the room. This time Thomas was with them. Jesus came through the locked doors, stood among them, and said, "Peace to you."

Then he focused his attention on Thomas. "Take your finger and examine my hands. Take your hand and stick it in my side. Don't be unbelieving. Believe."

Thomas said, "My Master! My God!"

Jesus said, "So, you believe because you've seen with your own eyes. Even better blessings are in store for those who believe without seeing."

Jesus provided far more God-revealing signs than are written down in this book. These are written down so you will believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and in the act of believing, have real and eternal life in the way he personally revealed it.

Looking For and Finding a Perfect Love

Do you want the kind of love that will last forever? Don't we all! Look no further than to Jesus Christ, God Himself in the flesh. He was sent from Heaven to a broken people on earth to die in their place so that they could have life. That is love, I tell you! 

But who exactly is Jesus? That's the question we all must answer. Each of us. Believer or not, this question will be asked of us one day. If you don't understand, read ahead and you'll discover the greatest love story ever told.

Today is Good Friday for we who believe and so commemorate the passion of Jesus of Nazareth, meaning his crucifixion on the cross for the sin of mankind... all leading to His Resurrection. 

Think about this: The very measurement of time changed because of this event!

Jesus is controversial- and His story timeless. Magazines still devote cover stories to Him, books continue to be written, songs composed, and films made. Each piece brings to the forefront Jesus' own question to his disciple Peter, and agin, it is one we all must answer: "Who do you say I am?"

Yes, it's true. Just for you and me and the whole earth - from the beginning of time. Jesus chose to lay down his life to redeem us from Hell. The Hell we deserve for our sin. Ever lie? Cheat? Slander? Then, his sacrifice via the cross was just for you. It's a gift that cost him much pain and sorrow. But if you receive this gift of eternal life by choosing and following Him, it's a gift back to Him that will bless him. Yes, something very special.

God is very gracious and loving by making it crystal clear and easy to understand: Jesus Himself says He is the Only Way, the Only Truth, the Only Life and that no one would be able to come to an eternity with God the Father except by receiving Him. (Read the Book of John in the New Testament, Chapter 14). God could have made it difficult to discover, but He did not. It's not from hate or prejudice, it's from love He said what He said and did what He did.

It was His same great love for the people He created- that includes you and me- that caused Him to sacrifice Jesus in our place. And it's His same love that draws you to Him. Can you feel the call to Him in your heart? Does your spirit leap at the sound of His name?
If not, it's time to ask yourself why. 

First comes death on a cross. A brutal and terrifying way to die. Torture like none other. Medically, it's just an awfully painful way to die. (Read about the medical explanation of what this does to a body here.) His radical way to show great love begins with his submission to this kind of death.

But oh, then comes Easter Sunday morning- the Triumph of Jesus over sin and death- for our benefit! Never a victim- always a champion. He accomplished this great mission born from Love- the very mission the Father gave Him. Jesus the triumphant one! Preachers everywhere should remember this! As should the people He gave his life for.

At the end of time, known as the Final Judgment in the Bible, (See the last book of the Bible. It's called "Revelation"), Jesus has returned to earth as the Triumphant King that He is. Mankind, one person at a time, must give an account for how they have lived their life. Those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ and have lived to please Him all their days will proceed to an eternal glory free from pain and suffering.

Unfortunately, not all will believe. He gave men free will to choose. To those who have turned away from Jesus, rejected Him even though He was God's gift to pay for our sins, they will be sent to Hell, the place of fire and torment forever. Hell was designed for Satan and his demonic angels, but those that deny Jesus as Messiah (Christ) and follow their own path, end up in that place as well. It's their choice, not God's.

So, Jesus' question remains: Who do you say that I am?

No Plastic, Pastel Colored Egg!

This is no plastic, pastel colored egg! This is an empty tomb. Cold and uninhabited! Praise God it is Easter Sunday morning- the celebration of the  Triumph of Jesus over sin and death- for our benefit! Christians the world over rejoice even if the world mocks us.

Jesus was always a champion. He was never the victim, He was the obedient Son who came to earth to die for a people He loves. That's you and me.  And He is the Returning King who IS coming back to judge the world of sin and to establish his kingdom forever. Do you know Him? Do you love Him? Have you given your life up to Him so that you don't have to pay the price of an eternity in Hell without Him?  

Heaven awaits for those who love Him and lay down their desires and their agendas in order to follow Jesus wholeheartedly. He paid the penalty for OUR sin on our behalf. The long list of what God sees as sin is long- and we've all done so many things we know we should not have done. You know those choices that dishonor us, others, and dishonor God? Yes, those.

This isn';t about who you are- It is about Who HE is! The King of Kings and Lord of Lords. God eternal. The One we will all answer to.

What do you say? Who is Jesus to you?

Easter Baskets and Candy Eggs

There's no need to sugarcoat it. All the malted milk ball eggs and chocolate candies in the basket can't hide the truth: Every human deserves the penalty of an eternity in Hell away from the God who created him. That's you, that's me. We all sin and fall short of God's glory. 

Even the very nicest person in the world who hasn't surrendered their life to Jesus has to pay that price for lying, cheating, stealing, or falling short of perfection. It doesn't matter if you call yourself Christian or follow any other religion or how you identify sexually. The penalty is the same. Death for eternity. Separation from God for eternity. Pain and suffering for eternity. But wait- there's hope!

For you and for me. 

Totally free- but it comes at a price- your life in exchange for His.

Yes, there's hope! In God's good plan, just for you and me and the whole earth - determined from the beginning of time- Jesus chose to lay down his life to redeem us from Hell. This sacrifice via the cross was just for you. It's a gift that cost him much pain and sorrow. "Good Friday"? It was good for us, but it was torturous for Jesus. Death was part of the path to Eternal Victory over it.

The only price is your total surrender to God. Not religion. Not hoping your good works are more than your evil actions. Not giving away all your money. 

If you receive this gift of eternal life by choosing and following Him, it's a gift back to Him that will bless him.  If you don't, prepare for your future as best you can. But God DOES love you, and He aches for you to come to Him.

What the Easter Bunny Can't Do- The Triumph of the Cross

Did the Easter Bunny bring you all you wanted? My bet is he did not. What we really want is something that lasts behind chocolate that melts, that next Walt Disney World trip, or whatever shiny, new, bright thing it is you want. 

You know, nobody kills the Easter Bunny. But the best gift of all came from one who was sentenced to die. He followed through because of love. Love for a lost and broken and hurting- even angry- mankind. Jesus doesn't look the other way. He sees you. He knows you. And he's waiting for you. In fact, he went a step further and died in our place. He paid the price we should have.

Because of his great love, Jesus keeps things simple. "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (The verse in the Bible is found in the book of John, chapter 14, verse 6.) 

It wasn't an easy journey. First came death on a cross. A brutal and terrifying way to die. Torture like none other. Medically, it's just an awfully painful way to die. His radical way to show great love begins with his submission to this kind of death.

But oh, then comes Easter Sunday morning- the Triumph of Jesus over sin and death- for our benefit! Never a victim- always a champion. Imagine being one of his followers back in ancient days. You go to the tomb expecting to offer your prayers and honor Jesus, but instead a great surprise awaits. Exploring the empty tomb, you discover His crucified body has instead risen back to life- all to the glory of God the Father. Then you remember Jesus' own words that He would rise again- fully paying the price for my sin and yours. Owning this as eternal truth deep inside your heart leads to untold adventures of spirit and soul. 

His follower Peter had it right. When Jesus said, "Who do you say that I am?", he answered "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." (See the Bible's Book of Matthew, chapter 16, verses 13-20.) 

Then Peter got scared, eventually ran away when the soldiers came to take Jesus. But Peter came back to his senses, and he became a powerful leader for those who loved Jesus. 

Don't be fooled- Hell is a real place. It's a place designed for all who reject God's gift of Jesus for the payment for our sins. When Jesus returns to judge the earth, our chances to decide for him are over, never again to be offered to us. 

Just like Peter, we all have to answer Jesus' question- "Who do you say that I am?"

Disney World's Easter Bunny and Beyond

Soft, fuzzy and very cute. The Easter Bunny is everything a little kid could want, bringing chocolate and small gifts to all who anxiously wait for his arrival. It's even more fun to see him at Disneyland or Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. It's a great parade!

But do you want something far better? Look no further than the original Easter present, Jesus Christ. His only parade came days before he was killed. Instead of riding on a magnificent war horse, he came riding through town on a donkey- a symbol of humility and coming in peace. But make no mistake, Jesus is still the King of Kings!

The Son of God come in the flesh- the very one who will return to earth one day to establish his eternal kingdom. He’ll come to judge the living and the dead- but His gifts are better than chocolate. He alone gives eternal life, the best gift of all.

But who exactly is Jesus? Or more specifically, "Who is Jesus Christ to you?" This very question will be asked of all of us on earth one day. If you don't understand, read ahead and you'll discover the greatest love story ever told.

Jesus is not in his tomb.

It was truly a very Good Friday! His story is told to this day all over the world- and in spite of any opposition, it has never been able to be stopped.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (from the Bible's book to the church in Rome, chapter 5, verses 6-8)

So, Jesus' question remains: Who do you say that I am?

DIY Easter Celebration

 

The Resurrection of Jesus is the centerpiece of the Bible, the event of the ages, a celebration of Jesus’ conquest over death proving He is God! For more than two thousand years, believers have gathered together with joyful hearts to commemorate this historic event. 

The power of the day comes not from the pageantry large or small but from the event itself. The Savior of the World has risen from the dead! (“He has risen indeed!”) How you celebrate is up to you. 

Have you ever wanted to do your own Easter celebration service? It's not as difficult as you think.

Plan Ahead

To do this well requires a small amount of preparation.

One week before celebrating on Resurrection Sunday, prayerfully consider these elements:

- Who will you invite to join you? Why have you chosen them?

-     Select at least two worship songs that hold rich meaning for you. Use one at the opening and one for the end. If you are inviting those considering Christianity or newer believers, be sensitive to their level of understanding. Choose songs without words difficult for them to understand or to sing. Consider the ages of any children present as well. The point is not to choose childish songs but to select songs everyone can easily understand. Avoid “Christianese” which can unintentionally divide us from others and take away from a clear simple Gospel message. 

- Choose your Scripture verses. Which gospel presentation of the Resurrection account speaks to you most strongly or works for a multigenerational or an audience considering Christianity?   Prayerfully read each one. (Matthew 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; John 20.)

- Keep the timeframe relatively short. This is not necessarily a time to preach. It is a time to reflect and celebrate as each person participates. Take more time as needed based on the responses of your guests.

- If you wish, read or discuss the accounts of Jesus’ crucifixion as an introduction.

Sunday Morning

Decide which room to meet in and make it as comfortable as possible.

Briefly explain what you’ll be doing (introductory prayer, a worship song, reading Scripture together, a short discussion time, a closing song.) 

Begin with a simple prayer followed by a song.

Read your chosen Scripture together. Just a reminder that some people find reading aloud difficult. Ask for volunteers but do not specifically ask anyone unless you are 100% confident they will be comfortable doing so.

Consider asking open ended questions of your guests before you close with one final song and a prayer. Be sure to share your own thoughts as well, but it is best to do so after others have answered. 

o A few ideas: How does reading about the Resurrection of Jesus impact you? What does it make you think? How does it make you feel?

End with prayer and thank everyone for joining you.

Jesus Conquers Death- and His Sacrifice Brings Us Life

There is hope eternal. Jesus conquered death by raising from the dead! And He alone can bring you life instead of brokenness. He is Risen indeed! Christians all over the world celebrate this historical fact. And He is returning one day to judge the world and redeem those who believe.

In the strangeness of the way God sometimes works, He offered up His Son- the very image of Himself- on the cross in order to pay for the sins of man. Jesus was sacrificed in our place. Yours and mine. We have all fallen short of God's glory, and only God Himself could pay the price on our behalf. 

Do you believe? If not, I suggest you read Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell. That is, if you are open minded to think it through and look at facts. Some have not done so and already determined what they believe. But the truth holds up as it always does. Jesus Christ died for the sins of every man, but only some will choose Him. He is offering you a fresh beginning and eternity lies before you. Will you choose Him?

They Didn't Kill the Easter Bunny

There's a reason the Easter Bunny thrives. People love him. He's soft, cuddly, and approachable. He brings colorful eggs filled with sweet treats and other little gifts, but he is not the reason for the holiday we'll celebrate at the dinner table this Sunday. Look deeper. I encourage you to do so. Go ahead.

A COVID-19 Easter- The Grinch Strikes Again

In the spirit of Dr. Seuss, I give you the following poem about Easter, COVID-19, and hopefully, a big laugh:

How the Virus Stole Easter

Twas late in ‘19 when the virus began, bringing chaos and fear to all people, each land.

People were sick, and the hospitals full; doctors were frantic, and no one in school.

As winter gave way to the promise of spring, the virus raged on, touching peasant and king.

People hid in their homes from the enemy unseen. They YouTubed and Zoomed, social-distanced, and cleaned.

April approached and churches were closed. “There won’t be an Easter,” the world supposed.

“There won’t be church services, and egg hunts are out. No reason for new dresses when we can’t go about.”

Holy Week started, as bleak as the rest. The world was focused on masks and on tests.

“Easter can’t happen this year,” it proclaimed. “Online and at home, it just won’t be the same.”

Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, the days came and went. The virus pressed on; it would not relent.

The world woke up Sunday and nothing had changed. The virus still menaced, the people, estranged.

“Pooh pooh to the saints,” the world started grumbling. “They’re finding out now that no Easter is coming.

“They’re just waking up! We know just what they’ll do! Their mouths will hang open a minute or two, and then all the saints will all cry boo-hoo.

“That noise,” said the world, “will be something to hear.” So it paused and the world put a hand to its ear. And it did hear a sound coming through all the skies. It started down low, then it started to rise.

But it wasn’t depressed. Why, this sound was triumphant! It couldn’t be so! But it grew with abundance! The world stared around, popping its eyes. Then it shook! What it saw was a shocking surprise!

Every saint in each nation, the tall and the small, was celebrating Jesus in spite of it all!

It hadn’t stopped Easter from coming! It came! Somehow or other, it came just the same!

And the world with its life quite stuck in quarantine Stood puzzling and puzzling. “Just how can it be?” “It came without bonnets, it came without bunnies, It came without egg hunts, cantatas, or money.”

Then the world thought of something it hadn’t before. “Maybe Easter,” it thought, “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Easter, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

And what happened then? Well....the story’s not done. What will YOU do? Will you share with that one or two or more people needing hope in this night? Will you share the source of your life in this fight?

The churches are empty - but so is the tomb, and Jesus is victor o'er death, doom, and gloom. So this year at Easter, let this be our prayer, as the virus still rages around, everywhere.

May the world see hope when it looks at God’s people. May the world see the church is not building or steeple.

May the world find its faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, May the world find a Joy in a time of dejection. May two-oh-two-oh be the year of survival, but not only that - Let it start a revival.

Jesus Speaks of COVID-19?

Did Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, speak of COVID-19 during his days on earth? Here's his startling words out of the account given by Luke:

““As for these things that you are gazing at, the days will come when not one stone will be left on another. All will be torn down!”  So they asked him, “Teacher, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that these things are about to take place?”  He said, “Watch out that you are not misled. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them!  And when you hear of wars and rebellions, do not be afraid. For these things must happen first, but the end will not come at once.

Then he said to them, “Nation will rise up in arms  against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  There will be great earthquakes, and famines  and plagues in various places, and there will be terrifying sights  and great signs from heaven.”  

That's Luke 21:6-11 from the Bible. We just celebrated Easter Sunday, the commemoration of His Resurrection from the Dead, after being crucified on the Cross on Good Friday. He died once for the sins of all who would choose to believe in Him and turn toward God and away from a self-focused life. He said that he is The Way, the Truth and The Life- that a no one could get to heaven except by Him. (See John 14:6.) His love makes his words simple, direct, and easy to comprehend. We must all make a choice that effects our eternity. We get to choose Jesus and believe or we get to reject Him. Yes, it's that straightforward. 

The Ultimate Victory

Now after the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it.  His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.  The guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of him. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come and see the place where he was lying.  Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead. He is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you!” So they left the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. But Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” They came to him, held on to his feet and worshiped him.  Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.”

While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened.  After they had assembled with the elders and formed a plan, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole his body while we were asleep.’  If this matter is heard before the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story is told among the Jews to this day. 

So the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the mountain Jesus had designated. When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

The Ultimate Test of Forgiveness

As they led him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country. They placed the cross on his back and made him carry it behind Jesus.  A great number of the people followed him, among them women who were mourning and wailing for him. But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For this is certain: The days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore children, and the breasts that never nursed!’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’  For if such things are done when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” 

Two other criminals were also led away to be executed with him.  So when they came to the place that is called “The Skull,” they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. But Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Then they threw dice to divide his clothes. The people also stood there watching, but the leaders ridiculed him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”  The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine,  and saying, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!” There was also an inscription over him, “This is the king of the Jews.”

One of the criminals who was hanging there railed at him, saying, “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Don’t you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we rightly so, for we are getting what we deserve for what we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”  Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” 

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, because the sun’s light failed. The temple curtain was torn in two. Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And after he said this he breathed his last.

Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God and said, “Certainly this man was innocent!”  And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts. And all those who knew Jesus stood at a distance, and the women who had followed him from Galilee saw these things.

Jesus is Risen Indeed!

Jesus conquered death by raising from the dead! He is Risen indeed! Christians all over the world celebrate this historical fact. And He is returning one day to judge the world and redeem those who believe.

Do you believe? If not, I suggest you read Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell. That is, if you are open minded to think it through and look at facts. Some have not done so and already determined what they believe. But the truth holds up as it always does. Jesus Christ died for the sins of every man, but only some will choose Him. Will you?

An Everlasting Love Story

Do you want the kind of love that will last forever? Look no further than to Jesus Christ. But who exactly is Jesus? That's the question we all must answer. Each of us. Believer or not, this question will be asked of us one day. If you don't understand, read ahead and you'll discover the greatest love story ever told.

Today is Good Friday for we who believe and so commemorate the passion of Jesus of Nazareth, meaning his crucifixion on the cross for the sin of mankind... all leading to His Resurrection. 

Think about this: The very measurement of time changed because of this event!

Jesus is controversial- and His story timeless. Magazines still devote cover stories to Him, books continue to be written, songs composed, and films made. Each piece brings to the forefront Jesus' own question to his disciple Peter, and agin, it is one we all must answer: "Who do you say I am?"

Yes, it's true. Just for you and me and the whole earth - from the beginning of time. Jesus chose to lay down his life to redeem us from Hell. The Hell we deserve for our sin. Ever lie? Cheat? Slander? Then, his sacrifice via the cross was just for you. It's a gift that cost him much pain and sorrow. But if you receive this gift of eternal life by choosing and following Him, it's a gift back to Him that will bless him. Yes, something very special.

God is very gracious and loving by making it crystal clear and easy to understand: Jesus Himself says He is the Only Way, the Only Truth, the Only Life and that no one would be able to come to an eternity with God the Father except by receiving Him. (Read the Book of John in the New Testament, Chapter 14). God could have made it difficult to discover, but He did not. It's not from hate or prejudice, it's from love He said what He said and did what He did.

It was His same great love for the people He created- that includes you and me- that caused Him to sacrifice Jesus in our place. And it's His same love that draws you to Him. Can you feel the call to Him in your heart? Does your spirit leap at the sound of His name?
If not, it's time to ask yourself why. 

First comes death on a cross. A brutal and terrifying way to die. Torture like none other. Medically, it's just an awfully painful way to die. (Read about the medical explanation of what this does to a body here.) His radical way to show great love begins with his submission to this kind of death.

But oh, then comes Easter Sunday morning- the Triumph of Jesus over sin and death- for our benefit! Never a victim- always a champion. He accomplished this great mission born from Love- the very mission the Father gave Him. Jesus the triumphant one! Preachers everywhere should remember this! As should the people He gave his life for.

At the end of time, known as the Final Judgment in the Bible, (See the last book of the Bible. It's called "Revelation"), Jesus has returned to earth as the Triumphant King that He is. Mankind, one person at a time, must give an account for how they have lived their life. Those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ and have lived to please Him all their days will proceed to an eternal glory free from pain and suffering.

Unfortunately, not all will believe. He gave men free will to choose. To those who have turned away from Jesus, rejected Him even though He was God's gift to pay for our sins, they will be sent to Hell, the place of fire and torment forever. Hell was designed for Satan and his demonic angels, but those that deny Jesus as Messiah (Christ) and follow their own path, end up in that place as well. It's their choice, not God's.

So, Jesus' question remains: Who do you say that I am?

Parker, Jesus, and That Dirty Tomb

From my daughter regarding Easter:  "Laughable moment: we had the kids clean up so that we could do the egg hunt. Parker threw a fit and said "well Jesus didn't have to clean out the tomb..."

Gotta love that kid! (The one on the right, our miracle boy. Read the story.) He has a very funny way of looking at life without even trying! Happy Birthday, Parker!

Some Special Gift

Your life it's a gift back to Him that will bless him. Yes, something special.

Easter Sunday morning- the Triumph of Jesus over sin and death- for our benefit! Never a victim- always a champion. Preachers everywhere should remember this! As should the people He gave his life for. There's only ONE way to Heaven, and that's through the sacrificial gift of the life of Jesus. God wasn't being a bigot by making it this way. He was keeping it simple. Now you know- what are you going to do about it?

The Victorious Not The Victim

Easter Sunday is here! I am shocked by the number of faithful people who choose to think of Jesus as the broken martyr who had no choice but to die on the cross for our sins. Think about it: The Biblical truth is that Jesus completed the mission God the Father gave Him. This makes Jesus a victorious king and not a victim.

^^^ Imagine this being your sole mission in life!

You just have to read the following passage today that describes the Resurrection of Jesus....

He is Risen Indeed!

Resurrection!

Early in the morning on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone was moved away from the entrance. She ran at once to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, breathlessly panting, "They took the Master from the tomb. We don't know where they've put him."

Peter and the other disciple left immediately for the tomb. They ran, neck and neck. The other disciple got to the tomb first, outrunning Peter. Stooping to look in, he saw the pieces of linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Simon Peter arrived after him, entered the tomb, observed the linen cloths lying there, and the kerchief used to cover his head not lying with the linen cloths but separate, neatly folded by itself. Then the other disciple, the one who had gotten there first, went into the tomb, took one look at the evidence, and believed. No one yet knew from the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead. The disciples then went back home.

But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. As she wept, she knelt to look into the tomb and saw two angels sitting there, dressed in white, one at the head, the other at the foot of where Jesus' body had been laid. They said to her, "Woman, why do you weep?"

"They took my Master," she said, "and I don't know where they put him." After she said this, she turned away and saw Jesus standing there. But she didn't recognize him.

Jesus spoke to her, "Woman, why do you weep? Who are you looking for?"
She, thinking that he was the gardener, said, "Mister, if you took him, tell me where you put him so I can care for him."

Jesus said, "Mary."

Turning to face him, she said in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" meaning "Teacher!"

Jesus said, "Don't cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, 'I ascend to my Father and your Father, my God and your God.'"

Mary Magdalene went, telling the news to the disciples: "I saw the Master!" And she told them everything he said to her.

Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, "Peace to you." Then he showed them his hands and side.

The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were exuberant. Jesus repeated his greeting: "Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you."

Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. "Receive the Holy Spirit," he said. "If you forgive someone's sins, they're gone for good. If you don't forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?"

But Thomas, sometimes called the Twin, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples told him, "We saw the Master."

But he said, "Unless I see the nail holes in his hands, put my finger in the nail holes, and stick my hand in his side, I won't believe it."

Eight days later, his disciples were again in the room. This time Thomas was with them. Jesus came through the locked doors, stood among them, and said, "Peace to you."

Then he focused his attention on Thomas. "Take your finger and examine my hands. Take your hand and stick it in my side. Don't be unbelieving. Believe."

Thomas said, "My Master! My God!"

Jesus said, "So, you believe because you've seen with your own eyes. Even better blessings are in store for those who believe without seeing."

Jesus provided far more God-revealing signs than are written down in this book. These are written down so you will believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and in the act of believing, have real and eternal life in the way he personally revealed it.
