Charlie's Angels Reboot? No, Just No

What do you get when you mix a classic campy television show with woman power in the latter half of this decade? A big mistake in the case of the most recent and misguided Charlie's Angels reboot. A big mistake.  Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson are still the best of the angels lot.

Leave the classic television show alone.

The more recent remake with the very talented cast of Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu was just passable even if a bit humorous as was the original. Solid "C" film, nothing more than summer fluff.

Bad but at least a likable cast.

This time around, it's the talented Naomi Scott (fresh from playing Jasmine in Aladdin), playing next to the extremely unlikable Kristen Stewart. This makes it an all around pass. Not even worth a viewing. Sorry, ladies.

(The new live action Mulan, however, looks like a winner...)

Farrah Fawcett Makes Another Splash

One of the major television and film stars of the 1970's has her time in the spotlight once more tonight on ABC.

Farrah Fawcett started with shampoo and shaving cream television ads but soon moved on to international fame due to a popular show called Charlie's Angels, with Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson. With a little red bathing suit, a dazzling smile, and a mane of beautiful blonde hair, Farrah instantly became a pin up girl for the generation with one single poster.

Later in life, she was unfortunately more known for making the newspaper tabloids due to her relationship with Ryan O'Neal. But she continued to make a splash everywhere she went.

Want to know more about this life cut short? Make sure to watch ABC's “This is Farrah Fawcett” tonight from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. I'm sure it will be fascinating.

Farrah Fawcett's Secret Life

The news is surprising and a bit disappointing. As with most men of the time, Farrah Fawcett and her beauty captured my eye when I first saw her on television's Charlie's Angels. Almost instantly, she was the breakout star, the new golden girl, the one with everything. The hair, the smile, the eyes, the sex appeal- she epitomized the glamour of Southern California and Hollywood. Co-stars Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith had their fans (and I was one!), but Farrah's was the star the endured.

Well, yesterday it comes to light that Farrah may have been seeing one of her former boyfriends while still with her longtime lover Ryan O'Neal.  One piece of the dispute between the two men seems to be the multi-million dollar piece of art done of the actress  by legendary Andy Warhol. (Top)

It boils down to money, sex, fame, and what happens to folks when they have it all. I just went to a memorial for a friend yesterday, and it got me to thinking about what kind of legacy I will leave. What about you? What will you be known for? For secrets will be revealed? What stories will be told? How will your life be summed up in the course of an hour long memorial?

Goodbye Farrah

Shampoo and shaving cream commercials, television and feature films. Farrah Fawcett did it all, but for her fans, she never really moved beyond the starmaking role as Jill Monroe in the television hit series, Charlie's Angels. With Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson, she played a savvy and seductive detective. Rising to temporary superstardom, (from an eternal perspective as well as in Hollywood, is there really any other kind?), Farrah became a pin up girl for a generation.

Post Angels, she was more known for making the tabloids due to her rough private life with Ryan O'Neal and their difficult family life. Unlike Hollywood, life doesn't always guarantee a happy ending, and this angel faught long and hard against her enemy, cancer. Now the battle is over. Hopefully, she has found her peace.
