Groovy Karen Carpenter

The clothes, the hairstyles, the colors. It's all the rage in the early 70's!
But the voice that defined the era was that of Karen Carpenter. She and brother Richard created one incredible hit after another for Herb Alpert's A&M Records

As Carpenters, their impact on the sound of music cannot be denied. Richard Carpenter's brilliance in arranging, writing, and uncovering hits from versions that were less than stellar guaranteed their legacy would live on for generations.

Reimagining a Beatles hit took guts, but Ticket to Ride first brought them notice. Then, as they say, the hits just keep on coming: Close to You, We've Only Just Begun, For All We Know, Rainy Days and Mondays, Superstar, Hurting Each Other, etc. Richard's songs with John Bettis brought more depth to their recording output. Goodbye to Love, Yesterday Once More, Top of the World, Only Yesterday.

The most viewed articles on this blog are the album reviews, rare photos, and special insights into this gifted duo. Lots to discover.

Yes, Karen Carpenter is groovy. She always was. And she still is.
